Indications
Vaginal delivery may sometimes cause excessive pain, and lead to post-delivery weakness. It may also cause several other complications for a mother. Apart from these conditions, a C-section delivery may be the only option for a mother to deliver her baby safely. C-section is indicated during the following:

Pre-procedure Guidelines
At the pre-procedure stage, a doctor conducts a session with a mother wherein the former briefs the latter about several aspects associated with the surgery. What happens during procedure

In the OT, a urinary catheter in addition to an intravenous line may be placed in the body.

An antiseptic solution may be used to clean the body and the hair may be clipped to prevent any distraction.
A drape will be put on the chest area as well as the abdomen, to cover the surgical site.

As soon as the effects of anesthesia kicks in, the specialist will start the incision in the abdominal section just above the pubic bone. After removing the placenta, the specialist will conduct a thorough inspection of the uterus for any tears or presence of any piece of placenta. Thereafter, the opening in the uterine muscles will be closed with sutures. Next, the uterus will be restored to its actual position in the pelvic cavity.
Lastly, sutures will be used to close the openings in the layers of muscles and tissues. Sutures, in conjunction with surgical staples, will also be used to close the incisions on the surface of the skin. To prevent it from any kind of infection, sterile dressing or bandage will be applied.
Post-procedure guidelines
Following the successful completion of a C-section surgery, the mother is asked to remain in the hospital for a few more days.
The mother will be asked to keep herself hydrated and walk for a few minutes to prevent the possibility of constipation or deep vein thrombosis. The doctor will check on the incision for any possible intervention, if necessary. A lactation consultant will guide the mother regarding breastfeeding her child safely in a way that both are well-positioned. Along with this, medications will also be prescribed to relieve her from post-surgical pain.
Before leaving the hospital, the doctor will brief the mother about the medications and precautions she needs to take at subsequent stages.
