Dr. Sonal Asthana

Dr. Sonal Asthana is a Senior Consultant - HPB & Transplant Surgery. After completing his MBBS and a postgraduate surgical degree from JIPMER, Pondicherry, he underwent subspecialty training in Surgical Oncology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

Later he went on to join the Liver Unit at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, UK to pursue training in Hepatobiliary Surgery and Multi-organ transplantation. He has also done a Fellowship in Multi-organ transplantation and has been a fellow of American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). He underwent extensive training in all aspects of the complex liver, biliary, and pancreatic surgery as well as training in the liver, kidney, whole-organ pancreas, small bowel and clinical islet-cell transplantation.

Due to his compassion for his medical field, Dr. Sonal Asthana has constantly involved himself in various research work and has contributed to more than 40 publications and scientific articles, attended numerous presentations at national and international meetings.Some of his research work includes the management of Hepatitis C, post-transplant immunosuppression, transplant epidemiology and hepatocellular carcinoma. Dr. Sonal Asthana has also been recognized by the British Transplant Society, The American Society of Transplantation, The Canadian Transplant Society and has won the Alberta Heritage Fellowship (AHFMR) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) HPB Surgery and Liver Transplantation award. He was also among very few who was selected for the European Health Leadership program at INSEAD, France in 2010.

Over the years, he has gained expertise in the surgical management of liver, gall-bladder, biliary and pancreatic diseases and cancers as well as liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation.
